Steel Drums at South Walnut Elementary in Bangor

Foundry Hall coordinated a second week of Steel Pan (Drum) workshops with Jean Raabe.  This time we brought the program to Bangor’s South Walnut Elementary School and worked with kids from kindergarten to fourth grade.  A target group of 2nd-4th graders spent three extra days learning 2 songs per grade to perform for the whole school on Monday, November 4th.  Continue reading “Steel Drums at South Walnut Elementary in Bangor”

Music Camp at the Bailey Museum

Instruments, drawing and painting, games, fort building, running in the woods, porch sitting, chalk drawing, Foundry Hall’s music camp was a mixed bag of fun for a week in mid July.  Mid week we had Samuel Nalangira join us to learn about his hand made instruments and to play a bunch of drums together outside.  It was an experience and a couple of kids left with new found love of guitar and ukulele!

4th of July Parade

This is third year Foundry Hall has organized an entry in the popular 4th of July parade.  We held a couple of parade fixins’ make sessions at SHCA ahead of time and invited anyone and everyone to join us in carrying flags, hula-hooping and handing out candy.  Two teenagers rode in a trailer playing “star spangled guitars” and we all had fun and survived the heat and humidity that always accompanies this parade.

Books By the Beach – Instrument Making

Tunebugs volunteers created a fun activity to add to the SHPS “Books by the Beach” program made possible by dedicated SHPS teacher Heather Chalupa.  We had fun experimenting with popsicle stick “harmonicas” with lots of young friends.  We brought a few instruments along, too, for the kids to learn about and play.
